Mr. Arthur Hinty is fat. He is a fat son of a bitch. He is
also old. Old and fat. Really fat. Fatter than he is old.
Can you believe what a middle-aged guy will go through in order to get a taste?
He is so fat that he has decided he needs an operation, called Roux en Y Gastric
Bypass, to lose weight and maintain his health. So that he can grow older. And
possibly get laid, though that, frankly, remains doubtful.
So Mr. Hinty went to the doctor, had a few tests and signed up for the operation
last fall.
Then he was told that his employer's health plan had recently been downgraded
and no longer covered gastric bypass surgery. Aargh!
The operation is expected to cost about $25,000 without complications. After
learning of the insurance snafu, Mr. Hinty was ready to sell his house to raise
the money. That's how much he believes he needs the operation.
That's when The Unbookables entered the picture.
Doug Stanhope heard of Mr. Hinty's predicament and hatched a plan.
He gathered his friends Andy Andrist, Sean Rouse and Lynn Shawcroft, along
with the talented musician Banjo Ghost (seen at left).
And he arranged for a weekend of comedy shows at the beautiful Skyline Comedy
Cafe in Appleton, Wis., to be recorded by the great people affiliated with Stand
Up! Records.
Update on Mr. Hinty's
post-surgery progress: 133 LBS. Lost through June 15, 2007!!! Only 60 lbs. to go
by the end of the year!
